This is an interesting old carved wooden face mask with hair made of straw sewn into the holes that run around the lip of the mask and skin made of thinly beaten copper.

Description

This is an interesting old carved wooden face mask with hair made of straw sewn into the holes that run around the lip of the mask.

The outer face side of the mask is covered in a thin skin of beaten copper that has a beautiful green / blue / grey patina. The inner side has no copper covering and reveals the original wood and shows carving marks.

There is a short nylon threaded loop, that has been added later, for hanging the mask up against a wall for decorative purposes.

My understanding is that this is an original African tribal mask, most likely from the Congo.

This is a highly decorative and original piece of African tribal art that would look good in any room in your home and definitely catches the attention of all that see it.
