Description
An unframed Victorian painting of a bearded gentleman sitting against a dark background in a jacket with a thin bow like tie and a gold watch chain.
It is possible that this piece is an overpainted albumen photograph of the subject that was applied to the canvas and then retouched with oil paint – the texture of which is evident in many areas.
There is damage in the form of a tear in the canvas that is plainly visible in the photographs supplied in the lower half of the piece and a good clean may be in order depending on your feelings about this.
